Accessories & Books
There are numerous books available for people who would like to have something to reference at home. I would recommend one of the following:
There are numerous accessories available for the iPad. Here are some of the ones that I mentioned during class.
AirPrint Compatible Printers
It is very important that a printer says it is AirPrint compatible. If the printer says it is wireless but does not say AirPrint compatible there is a strong possibility that it will not work. You can find a list of printers that are AirPrint Compatible on Apple's website.
Bluetooth Keyboards
If you want to do alot of typing on your iPad you may want to consider a Bluetooth Keyboard. It is important that the keyboad says that it is Bluetooth compatible or otherwise it will not work.
Apple sells a keyboard that works with the iPad. You can find it at Apple Stores, Best Buy, or on Apple's website. It retails for approximately $79.
You may also want to check out the Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard 760. It retails for approximately $55 on Amazon.
Transferring Photos From Camera
If you would like to put your photos directly on the iPad from your camera you will need to purchase one of the following:
30 Pin Connector - Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit
Lightning Connector - Lightning To SD Card Camera Reader
Lightining Connector - Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter
Stylus
I mentioned in class that some people like to use a stylus instead of their finger to interact with the iPad. If you purchase one of these at a local store (Target, Best Buy, Wal-Mart) you will probably spend between $10-$15.
Based on reviews online I would recommend amPen Ultra-sensitive Capacitive Stylus. It is currently listed at less than $7.
USB Extension Cable
If you would like to use your iPad while it is charging and not have to sit right next to a power outlet you might want to consider the AmazonBasics USB 2.0 A-Male to A-Female Extension Cable. This will give you an additional 9 feet of cord to work with. It is currently listed at less than $5.
Lock Screen
- First thing you see when the iPad lights up
- Can add a passcode for security
If you set up a passcode and forget it, you will have to erase your iPad!
Home Screen
- Can have multiple pages of apps
- Swiping all the way to the left (move finger from left to right) will bring up Spotlight search where you can search for apps, contacts, email, etc.
Dock
- Place where you should put your most used apps.
Organizing Apps
- Move apps
- Delete apps
- Create folders
- Delete folders
App Store
- Featured (Hand Picked Apps by Apple employees)
- Genius (Makes recommendations based on apps you have already downloaded)
- Top Charts (Best seller list for Paid and Free apps)
- Purchased (See a list of all apps previously purchased)
- Updates (This is where you update your apps)
- Search (Search for an app by name)
To download an app tap on the grey rectangle that says FREE or $1.99. Then tap on INSTALL. Apple will ask for your account password and then the app will start to download.
If you need some help setting up an account to use with the App Store you can visit Apple's website for further instructions.
Sync Music & Photos From Computer

Safari is the web browser that comes on every iPad. The screen shot below shows the interface for the iOS 6 version of Safari.
Back/Forward Arrows allow you to go navigate back/forward between web pages.
Booksmarks button allows you to access your bookmarks.
iCloud Tabs allows you to view the websites you have open on other iPads, iPhones, and Macs.
Share Menu allows you to mail a link, Tweet a link, share a website on Facebook, Add a website to the Home Screen, Print, Copy a link, and Bookmark a webapage.
Share Menu in Safari
When you are looking at an article you may see a little button labeled Reader in the Address Bar.
If you click the Reader button in the Address Bar it will strip away all the extra junk on the webpage and show a nice clean view for you to read the article in. When you are done reading the article simply tap the Reader button to exit Reader mode.
