Ransomware & Scams

If you receive an attachment that you weren't expecting call the person to confirm they sent it before opening it.

Having a backup strategy in place can minimize the frustration you will experience if something bad does happen to your computer.

You can backup to an external hard drive. Good brands include Seagate & Western Digital. On a Mac you can use Time Machine and on a PC you can use Genie Timeline Free.

An online backup is a great way to protect against theft, natural disaster & ransomware. We recommend Backblaze.

Phishing

Most phishing emails contain links that will take you to a website that will look real but is not. If you are ever a tiny bit suspicious don't click on the link.

Most phishing emails contain a generic greeting, missing punctuation, scare tactics, and poor phrasing.

Online Security

One of the best ways to keep your accounts secure online is to use strong and unique passwords.

Good passwords are. . .

The sentence method is a technique that can help you create a strong password that is easy to remember.

You first create a true sentence that contains a number in it. Underline or highlight the first letter of each word, each number, and each punctuation marks.

TO make the base password that you created unique, you can add a couple letters at the end, in the middle, or at the beginning.

Now you only have to remember the sentence and the code for each website.
